AutoSave

AutoSave stores a copy of your session in your browser’s internal storage (Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc). No data is shared with us. It’s important to note that if your browser’s memory or cache is cleared, the browser is closed improperly, or you’re browsing in incognito mode, you may lose all data and it won’t be possible to restore it. Additionally, while the data is stored in your browser’s internal memory, anyone with access to the computer can also access the saved information. Therefore, we recommend using AutoSave only on a trusted computer and, even with automatic saving enabled, manually saving your data whenever possible.

It’s also important to mention that AutoSave keeps one saved version for each file/project. You can view and restore from the saved version of each project using the provided interface. This allows you to restore a specific version of a file/project rather than just relying on the most recent save.

If you want to delete your data from the browser, each browser has its own step-by-step guide available on their official support pages:

In the AutoSave restore menu (more details below), you can also permanently delete your data by clicking the delete icon.

Using AutoSave and Restore

Whenever a blank new session a project is started, it receives a unique ID consisting of 50 random characters. This code is used to identify the file of that project from that point forward, and no matter how many times it is saved or imported, the code will always remain the same for that project/file.

By default, every time SimpliStats loads a new blank session or imports a saved session, AutoSave is turned off.

To enable AutoSave, click on the AutoSave icon.
When enabled, a copy of the project is immediately saved. AutoSave will then try to automatically save a new copy approximately every 5 minutes.

To restore a previously saved version, click on the Restore icon.
Now, with AutoSave, you will see a list of saved projects along with their respective Unique IDs displayed underneath.

You can restore the project you are interested in by clicking the restore icon corresponding to that project. You can also permanently delete it by clicking the delete icon.

Warning: Do not use AutoSave in two tabs of the same browser with sabe Project/File/Unique ID!

Do not use AutoSave with the same project/file/ID open in two tabs of the same browser!
If you use AutoSave simultaneously in two tabs within the same browser, the AutoSave data for the same project (based on its unique ID) will overlap. When closing one of the windows, the data from that session may be lost. This issue does not apply if you have different projects open in each tab, but we still recommend avoiding using AutoSave in multiple tabs. AutoSave should not be relied upon excessively; we recommend treating AutoSave as a backup plan and manually saving your data whenever possible.

FAQ

No. AutoSave is intended as a backup aid, not a primary storage method. It can fail if the browser crashes, the cache is cleared, the memory is full, or the device is used improperly. Always manually save your data when possible.

AutoSave saves a copy of your session locally in your browser’s internal storage (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge). It automatically updates the saved data as you work, helping to minimize loss in case of unexpected closures. No data is sent to our servers.

If you open two tabs with AutoSave active at the same time and they are working on the same project (i.e., with the same Unique ID), the AutoSave data between them will conflict. The last tab you close may overwrite the other’s data, causing loss of progress.

However, if the two tabs are working on different projects (with different Unique IDs), there is no conflict — each project will manage its AutoSave data separately without problems.

To be safe, avoid opening the same project in multiple tabs at once.

AutoSave data is private in the sense that it is not shared externally. However, because it is stored unencrypted in your browser’s memory, anyone with access to your computer can view or extract it. We recommend only using AutoSave on trusted devices.

No. In incognito or private browsing sessions, the browser automatically deletes local storage when the session ends, meaning AutoSave will not persist after you close the tab or window.

You can delete your AutoSave data directly from the restore menu by clicking the delete icon next to the project you want to remove.

Alternatively, you can clear your browser’s cache and cookies through your browser settings. However, please note that clearing the cache will remove all saved AutoSave projects at once, and this action cannot be undone.

There is no specific storage limit enforced by SimpliStats for AutoSave data.
However, AutoSave relies on your browser’s internal storage (IndexedDB), which has its own limits depending on the browser and device.
If the storage becomes full, your browser may block new saves or automatically delete older data to free up space.

For best performance, we recommend periodically reviewing and cleaning up old AutoSave entries you no longer need.

Yes, AutoSave works even if your internet connection is lost.
AutoSave stores your data locally in your browser’s internal storage (IndexedDB), so it does not rely on an active internet connection to save or restore your sessions.
